Women who use electric razors / shavers HELP! Worried about length of hair…?

I just got the Remington Silky and Smooth electric shaving system, it’s gotten really good reviews and highly reccomended by everyone, so I picked one up. I haven’t had the time nor the energy to stand in the shower for an extra half and hour trying to shave my legs, I have really course Inuit leg hair.

I’m a new mom, so bear with me, I haven’t been able to shave in about a month, so the hair on my legs is about as long as it gets.

My question is, should I shave with a regular razor before using my Electric one? Will the longer hairs mess it up, or is that what the trimmer does? I don’t want to get a bunch of longer hairs tangled up in the blade. Is the electric razor meant for that sort of thing, or am I better off shaving regularly one last time before going electric?

Is there much difference between men’s electric shavers and women’s electric shavers?

I’m a guy, but I’ve noticed that the electric shavers for women are much less expensive then men’s shavers. Is there a big difference? Aside from possibly getting mocked by my guy friends, would I get an equally good shave from a woman’s electric razor? The only difference I see might be that the razor head is a bit smaller than a guy’s electric razor, but other than that it doesn’t seem like there’s that much difference. Anyone know if there’s much difference?

As a side question, if I do use this model, do you think people would easily recognize this as a girl’s electric razor? Hopefully, I don’t get mocked too much. ;-)

Is there a specific reason why women cannot use men’s electric shavers on their legs?

I have a severe allergy to various ingredients in rubber, which is found on virtually all women’s razor heads. It causes my legs to itch incessantly for a couple weeks after shaving. I have tried waxing, but my hair seems too fine for it to be effective. I bought a female electric razor and was disappointed with its level of "closeness." I have seen so many commercials for men’s electric shavers that claim to achieve an extremely close shave. My question has many parts…
-Is there a particular men’s electric shaver that works really well?
-Does anyone know a reason why one could NOT use this on their legs?
-Finally, if this endeavor seems fruitless, does anyone have a suggestion for alternative hair removal? (Other than laser, which I cannot afford).

What is the best brand of electric razor? How much can I expect to pay for a good electric razor?

For years I’ve shaved with a razor, and enjoy the smooth feeling, but I have a new job with a really early start time, and may need to shave with an electric razor to save time in the morning. Which one an get me a close, non-itchy (if possible) shave?

I’m interested both in the sheer best quality shave, and (especially if that unit is ridiculously expensive) one that gives an excellent, close shave for a reasonable price.

Being waterproof, or at least shower-safe, is another feature that I would admire in an electric razor.
